Potential Site Access Issues

Summary

Access to pages for this site is tested using Internet Explorer version 6 and Mozilla Firefox version 1.0.6 running on Windows XP SP2 with McAfee Security Centre.  However with the multiple combinations of Windows, Browsers, levels of update and Virus checkers/Personal Firewalls each with a variety of potential settings it is not possible to fully test out the site. So should you have any problems with accessing the site please let me know and I will investigate them and if they appear to of a general nature will document the issue here.

It should be noted that JavaScript is used on many pages as a way of reducing email addresses being harvested for Spam or appearing in search engines

Problem have been report with accessing some pages  in particular the Contacts and Committee pages. This resulted in getting a blank page or going back to the home page (the blank page  has now been replaced a a warning message and a link to this page). It is also possible that the web master link is missing from the home page.

The main cause of problems seems to be failed processing of JavaScript although there are other possible causes of problems.

JavaScript Problems

Scripting is disabled in the internet options; to enable it go to Tools/Security/Custom and scroll down to the scripting section, ensure that the sub item active scripting is set to either enable or prompt.  This problems will result in the warning message and non appearance of the web master link.

You are using Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet Security and have activated the ad blocking option.  This should be disabled. See Norton site here  for more information. This does not impact all pages but may prevent access to the Contacts and Committee pages and it is possible that some of the detailed advanced setting may have other side effects. (it is hoped that this issue has now being resolved as the interaction with the site javascript and that inserted by Norton has been identified and the site code changed to avoid this- April 2006)

Note that after doing either of the above the cache should be cleared (see next section)

Other Issues

Many problems of failure to access the latest information or to occasionally get "not found error" result from caching problems. In general use of the refresh button will clear this or better use of the Ctrl key and the refresh button.  However this may not always work in which case the whole cache should be cleared : Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files-Delete Files.

Note other browsers will be different in detail but the same issues still exist.

For any help with the above or to report other issues please email me If reporting a problem please let me know, if possible, what software you are using, eg Windows version, Explorer version and any virus/spam/firewall software.
